Day 3: Introduction 1-3 MinutesCongratulations! You are 3 days into your 21-day brain detox and these are a few of the things happening in your brain right now:
An important note about day three: Day three is when the rush and excitement and motivation you have been feeling in day one and two starts changing because the chemicals are returning back to normal levels, which they are supposed to do. But you will feel different today and so my encouragement to you is to not be thrown by this – It is normal to feel this way. So to manage this day, let's keep things very simple, disciplined and focused. Step 1: Gather 1-2 Minutes The Gather step is the step where we become aware of the thoughts entering and floating around our minds. We must become aware of what we are allowing into our minds through our five senses. No thought entering your mind should go ever go unchecked. On day 3, you may start feeling demotivated. This is because you have been on a chemical high for day 1 and 2. On day 3, the high subsides. When you feel demotivated you may feel like you are losing control. To help you with this, Gather awareness of how you are feeling right at this moment. Now think back to yesterday's active reach. Replay the day in your mind, realizing that you actually did do something. Step 2: Focused Reflection 1-2 Minutes The Gather Step will generally make you aware of about 4-7 active thoughts. Of those 4-7 active thoughts, one or more of them are likely toxic thoughts. The Focused Reflection step is focusing in on just a single toxic thought with the goal of understanding what that toxic thought is doing to your life. Now do your focused reflection today by asking yourself how yesterday's active reach went. Answer yourself. Now discuss with yourself what you think could be done differently. It’s almost as if you are standing outside of yourself observing your own thinking. You are activating your MPA – your multiple perspective advantage to almost distance yourself from yourself. You are focusing in and evaluating your active reach and meditating on the impact and change that is starting to happen, but isn't complete yet.
Remind yourself that it takes 21 days to break down an established toxic thought pattern and to simultaneously build the new healthy thought. Step 3: Journal 2 Minutes In Focused Reflection you focused on a specific toxic thought. In the Journal Step, you write down the toxic thought and whatever the toxic thought causes to come into your head. Do this for a maximum of 2 minutes (literally write down whatever comes into your head). Capture the impact of this toxic thought on paper. Quickly write into your journal what is flowing through your mind. Keep it related to the specifics of your toxic thought, keep your mind disciplined. Don't be tempted to start working on another toxic thought. Step 4: Revisit 1-2 Minutes In the Journal step, you wrote down your thought related to seeing yourself free and the associated thoughts. In the revisit step, you are going to read what you wrote and ask the Holy Spirit how and what to change. Write down what the Holy Spirit reveals. Now revisit what you have written down. Compare it to yesterday’s journal and see how a pattern is starting to form and how cumulatively change is starting to happen. Remember you are on day 3 of this 21 day journey. You have 18 more days to make all the changes that will set you free from this toxic thought. Step 5: Active Reach 1-2 Minutes Remember, an Active Reach is the action you do during the day in response to the toxic thought you are working on. You decide what the action is each day. You can do the same Active Reach as yesterday or a brand new Active Reach. It is completely up to you. The Active Reach has two parts:
Your main active reach today will be to keep yourself motivated. Do this by directing your attention carefully. I recommend memorizing Proverbs 4: 20-23 (NKJV) for your active reach. Remember, your aim is to do your specific active reach at least 7 times today, so practice and meditate on it at least 7 times today. My son, give attention to my words; Incline your ear to my sayings. Do not let them depart from your eyes; Keep them in the midst of your heart; For they are life to those who find them, And health to all their flesh. Keep your heart with all diligence, For out of it spring the issues of life. |
Day 4:
Gen 11:6 The LORD said, "Behold, they are one people, and they all have the same language. And this is what they began to do, and now nothing which they purpose to do will be impossible for them. |
